The role of approximate location: privacy for the creator, trust for the business

On CocoMuny, a business's location is always exact. A creator's is always approximate. This difference isn't an oversight — it's a product rule that's been there from day one.

Why the business needs to be exact

A business has a physical venue people need to be able to reach. Hiding its address doesn't protect it from anything — quite the opposite, it puts it at a disadvantage against anyone looking for somewhere to eat or shop.

Why the creator needs to be approximate

Someone collaborating with businesses in their area shouldn't have to reveal exactly where they live to businesses they don't know, or to anyone using the app. Their approximate location is enough for the system to calculate distance and show relevant proposals, without compromising their personal privacy.

What this doesn't change

The approximation in a creator's location doesn't reduce the quality of proximity matching — the radius of activity each person declares is still the real filter that determines which businesses reach them, and vice versa.

A decision we keep even when it complicates the product

It would be simpler to treat everyone the same way. But a business and a private individual don't have the same privacy needs, and treating them as if they did would have been easier to code, not more correct.
