Measuring a collaboration without obsessing over numbers
Once the collaboration is over comes the inevitable question: did it work? And almost everyone looks first at what matters least.
Why view counts mislead
Content with lots of plays outside your area does not bring you a single customer. And content with few plays, seen by people who live ten minutes away, can fill a Tuesday.
In local retail, useful reach is geographic, not numerical. Ten people from your street are worth more than a thousand from another province.
What is worth looking at
Whether new people came in and where they say they heard about you. Asking "how did you find us?" at the till is still the most honest metric there is.
Whether anyone asked about something specific that appeared in the content. It is the clearest sign that it landed.
Whether new reviews or mentions appeared in the following days.
And whether the content serves you beyond the day itself: often the biggest gain is finally having decent material you can reuse for months.
The right window
Not the next day, not a year later. Two or three weeks is reasonable: enough time for people to come, still recent enough to connect.
And a healthy expectation
A single collaboration almost never transforms a business. What changes things is showing up regularly in places the people around you trust. Judging each piece as if it were decisive leads to giving up right before it starts to show.
