How to respond when a collaboration doesn't go as expected

However well designed the process is, some collaboration will eventually not go as expected — content that doesn't match what was agreed, a delay, an expectation that was never made clear enough from the start. It's a normal part of working with people.

Talk before you rate

Before leaving a negative review or cutting off the relationship entirely, it's worth having a direct conversation. Many mismatches come from expectations that were never fully spelled out, not from bad faith.

Be specific in the review, not just negative

If you do decide to leave a critical review, make it concrete and useful — what exactly went wrong — rather than generic. It helps the other person improve, and it also helps future businesses or creators understand what actually happened.

Don't let one bad experience close the door on the rest

A collaboration that doesn't work out doesn't mean the whole mechanism is useless. Changing person, setting expectations better next time, or simply trying a different approach usually beats giving up on the idea after a single attempt.
