How to measure whether a collaboration actually worked

It's easy to settle for the feeling that it "went well" and not dig any deeper. But there are more concrete signs that help decide whether a collaboration is worth repeating.

Real movement, not just interactions

"Likes" are easy to get and say little about whether anyone actually walked through the door. Ask your new customers directly how they heard about you — it's the most honest signal you'll get.

The mutual review, a more reliable thermometer than it seems

If the collaboration ended with a good review from both sides, that's a strong sign the relationship worked beyond the content itself — that there was good communication, the agreement was honoured, and both sides want to repeat it.

Repetition, the ultimate test

The most honest medium-term metric is simple: would you collaborate with that person again? If the answer is an unhesitating yes, it probably worked, beyond any specific number.

Don't judge a single collaboration as representative

A one-off collaboration might not work for reasons that have nothing to do with the quality of the work — bad timing, a poor style match. Before writing off the whole idea, it's worth trying with a different person.
