Word of mouth, the same as always — now digital

Long before any social network existed, a neighbourhood bar would fill up because the woman on the fifth floor told her neighbour the food was good and cheap. That mechanism — one trusted person recommending something to another — is the oldest and most effective engine of local commerce.

The only thing that's changed is the channel. Today that recommendation might arrive through an Instagram story instead of a chat in the stairwell, but the underlying mechanics are exactly the same: someone from your own circle telling you something good about a nearby place.

Normal people, not content professionals

That's also why CocoMuny avoids the label "content creator". The person collaborating with a business on the platform doesn't have to make a living from social media — they could be a student, someone juggling university with a job, someone without many resources who discovers they can earn a bit extra recommending the places they already go to.

That person isn't building a personal brand. With a phone camera, they're doing exactly what their grandmother did in the bakery queue: telling people in their neighbourhood where it's worth going.

Digital doesn't replace trust, it amplifies it

The difference with old-fashioned word of mouth is reach: a recommendation that used to reach ten people in a week can now reach five hundred in a day, without losing the ingredient that made it work — that it comes from someone real, from your own area, who isn't performing for a brand.
